Hampes
New York, Geneva, and Quebec
Cotton, cotton tread, various plants, wool, 2018 – 2021
Hampes is a series of flags exploring the tension between strength and fragility. The embroidery, intentionally uneven and unstable, moves away from its usual precision. Living plants — leaves, petals — are captured in the fabric: they dry, decompose, or vanish, sometimes leaving only a trace. With weaving, flowers are integrated during the textile’s creation, crushed between the threads. The aggressiveness of the stitches contrasts with the delicate plants. Presented as flags, these fragments embody reflections on domination, memory, control, and the ephemeral.
